85mm f/1.4 Close-Up Kit1:21
High Shutter for Close-Ups0:11

The 85mm Switch

Switch to the 85mm f/1.4 and bring the aperture down, move the ISO as needed so your shutter speed isn't blown up. Shoot close ups at as high a shutter speed as you can, to minimize jittering.

Show Gas vs Electric0:08

The Close Up Hit List

The close up hit list: The kitchen stove (show gas or electric, buyers always ask), the kitchen sink, dining tables, fireplaces, kitchen islands, cabinets, and cool light fixtures or accents that the home has.

Anchor Edges, Verify Focus0:24

Back Up for Perspective

Go as far back as possible for perspective, even into another room or down a hallway, as long as you still get the close up.

Open-Concept Close-Up Pass3:36

Shoot at an Angle

Close ups almost always look better at an angle. Having things at an angle gets more depth of field.

Foreground Is the Point0:23

Something in the Foreground

Whenever possible put an object in the foreground to show the depth.

Frame the Window View1:34

Window Views

When trying to capture a close up of a beautiful view, take a few steps back so a bit of the window frame shows, it should be obvious you're inside the home looking out.

Views Need a Subject0:13

A Main Subject

Ideally you should have a main subject when capturing the view. pick something even as simple as a rock.

Tips

Fireplace Focus

Glass reflections steal the autofocus on fireplaces. Focus just above the fireplace where it can lock, then bring the camera down to center.

A Slice at the Edges

I like to leave a tiny slice of wall or fridge at the frame edges so you know the shot is straight.
